So-Cal Fire Ride, Friendly Hills

This morning I awoke and went outside to view the sky after the long night of fires in the hills east and north east of our neighborhood. The ground was sprinkled with soot and ash. I wanted to get a sense of what the So-Cal fires were doing  so I put on my small pak and headed northeast to a small community called Friendly Hills. Looking east the cities are La Habra, Brea, Fullerton, Yorba Linda and Corona. To the northeast of Whittier are the towns of Diamond Bar and Chino Hills; southeast approx. 17 miles are the Anaheim Hills.

After about two miles I could see virtually nothing accept the local neighborhood at around 600 vertical feet, and the air was filled with heavy smoke. Breathing was not too bad, in fact, it wasn’t noticeable but there were others who I talked to who were having a difficult time breathing. When I finally came to the crest of the main hill on my ride the main plume of smoke from the fires was still rising and moving to the southwest. I didn’t want to push the ride because of poor air quality so I had a relaxing descent back to the barn.
